Greg Bounds - Captain

Greg Bounds is Captain of Goldhound Treasure Divers. Captain Bounds, age 41, has been in the sunken treasure salvage business for over 14 years, having worked some of the most renowned shipwreck discoveries in modern history, including the Atocha and Santa Margarita, both off Key West. Among other major finds in his career, Captain Bounds was responsible for discovering millions in treasures in a single day off the Santa Margarita. Those treasures included fine pearls, rare gold broaches, and over 30 feet of solid gold chains, all preserved for nearly 400 years in their sunken hiding spots. Bounds has spent the majority of his professional salver years as a Captain for the legendary Mel Fisher, considered the most successful sunken treasure hunter ever, before venturing out in search of his own legacy, which Bounds believes will be major discoveries from the 1715 Fleet.

Greg Bounds is a United States Coast Guard certified 100-ton Master Captain, his qualifications allowing him to navigate vessels as large as 120 feet in length. The location and depth of potential treasure wrecks help determine the size of the vessel Bound chooses to operate.

Currently, Captain Bounds serves as a sub-contractor to Mel Fisher Center, Inc. in search of the 1715 Fleet, continuing his long and prosperous relationship with the Fisher family. One of the great privileges in his life, says Bounds, was venturing out with Mel Fisher on the latter’s last treasure hunt before his death in the late ‘90s. “Mel had a dream as to how the 1715 Fleet broke up, and we followed that dream.” These days, that search is much more scientific for Bounds. He is now aided by a highly advanced, proprietary computer model that provides him unprecedented intelligence as to where the mother lode of the 1715 ships might lie, holding an estimated $450 million worth of silver coins.

Prior to working with Mel Fisher, Bounds was trained by another treasure hunter, John Brandon, a legend in his own right and one of Mel Fisher’s top salvers. Bounds often worked the summers on the 1715 wrecks with Brandon when conditions were optimal, and the winters with Mel Fisher off of the Keys. Before that, he pursued shipwrecks in the Bahamas with Brandon, where they successfully located jewelry, coins, artifacts and more from numerous wrecks.
Bounds got the treasure-hunting bug in his days working for security at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral. While there, he helped guard facilities that tracked launched satellites. When colleagues of his told tales of opportunities to search for sunken treasures, Greg decided to look under rather than up, and has never looked back.

Chas Francoviglia - The Right Hand Man

Charles “Chas” Francoviglia is a partner of Gold Hound Treasure Divers and one of its key salvors. Chas has been active in treasure salvage operations for more than a dozen years and brings extensive underwater archaeological experience to such efforts. He has studied everything from shipwreck archaeological site plans, charting, underwater drawing and surveying, to detection, excavation, artifact conservation and more. Chas, who’s been a scuba diver for nearly three decades, has worked the 1715 Fleet for 12 years including many years under the stewardship of John Brandon, one of the leaders in Florida’s shipwreck salvage community. Chas brings all of that combined expertise to Gold Hound Treasure Divers in its search of the mother lode from the 1715 Fleet.

Chas teamed with Captain Greg Bounds in 2002 to build the M/V Goldhound for use in the continued excavation and artifact recovery of the 1715 Fleet. Since then, he has consistently uncovered treasures from the fleet using advanced technologies that tie together clues from magnetometers, GPS and sonar scanners together with trails of shipwreck scatter, surveys, metal detectors and more. Chas says. “I will “do this till the day I drop, as long as I can dive”.

Before teaming with Captain Bounds, Chas worked for five years on the 1715 Fleet with John Brandon, himself a protégée of the legendary salver, Mel Fisher. Prior to that, he worked with the Oro Del Mar Treasure Salvage Team, also combing the 1715 Fleet.
Before becoming a treasure salver, Chas worked in operations at Florida Power and Light for over a decade. While there, he oversaw operations of all auxiliary equipment including intakes and discharges of plant cooling water. He also received specialized training in areas such as environmental evaluations in conjunction with the U.S. Coast Guard, environmental oil spill management, and hurricane planning for plant and personnel among other areas of expertise. Previously, he worked with Bema Marine Construction installing docks and seawalls, and dredging.

Chas Francoviglia attended the Underwater Dive Technology (UDT) Commercial Diving Program at the Florida Institute of Technology where he received certification as a commercial diver qualified for offshore and inland search, salvage, Non-Destructive Testing & Inspections, and more.

Mo Molinar - The Legend

Moe is one of the most successful treasure hunters in Florida to date. Mo worked for Mel Fisher from the very start of the 1715 Fleets recovery operations. After several years and many successes with t he 1715 Fleet, Mo followed Mel Fisher when Mel moved his search and recovery operations to the Florida Keys to search for the 1622 wreck of the Nuestra Senora de Atocha.

While searching for the Arocha in 1972, Mo discovered a previously unknown shipwreck. After 10 years of artifact recovery and research, the wreck finally gave up the ship's bell. It was the "Henrietta Marie" and a date of "1699". To date, it is the only slave ship ever to be found and identified in the new worlds water's.

After the 1985 "big pile" recovery of the main ballast area on the Atocha, Mo Molinar decided to strike it out on his own and left Fisher's company. Mo was working on the Nuestra Senora de las Nievas wreck in 1987 when he made the largest recovery of Spainish gold coins on the 1715 Fleet since the early days of the Real Eight Company. In this year alone, Mo and his divers recovered 238 gold coins and a spectacular 4 escudo "Royal" presentation piece along with many other artifacts. Since this time, not a year has gone by when Mo has not made a magnificant find of gold, silver, jewerly, or a unique artifact.

We welcome the opportunity to have our friends and Investors dive with us this season and meet one of our heros.
